A Minecraft world to use as a catalyst for the project

Learning Objectives

  • Investigate and collect information about religions from around the world
  • Plan and build religious symbols, places of worship or statues in Minecraft: Education Edition
  • Share information linking online tools to NPC’s

Guiding Ideas

This project will provide opportunities for learners to enquire, explore and investigate their world and develop appreciation of identity and heritage.

Learners will have opportunities to discuss religion and what it means to them. They will explore different religions in Wales and around the world. They will research and plan a symbol, place of worship or statue in Minecraft: Education Edition. They will share their work with others to educate them about different religions and help develop ethical, informed citizens of the world.

Introductory Questions: 

  • What do you know about different religions?
  • Why are symbols and places of worship important in religion?
  • How can we create a place of worship or religious symbol in Minecraft?
  • How can we share our learning with a wider audience?

 

Student Activities

Introduction and Research – 1-2 hours

  • Learners will discuss different religions
  • They will collect information about religions and give an overview of these religions

Research – 1-2 hours

  • Learners work in groups, pairs or individually to choose one religion and conduct further research and decide on a build

Planning – 1-2 hours

  • Learners create a detailed plan of their build
  • Learners draw a scale plan on squared paper and appoint roles for a collaborative build

Build – 1-2 hours

  • Learners build a place of worship, statue or symbol associated with a religion
  • Learners follow a plan to build accurately in Minecraft: Education Edition

Information Sharing – 1-2 hours

  • Learners create linked content information that is to be shared within their build via NPCs
  • Learners share information about their build using Sway, PowerPoint or an online document

Video Walkthrough – 1-2 hours

  • Learners create a screen recording and voiceover walkthrough of their builds to share their learning with a wider audience
