Learning Objectives

  • Describe the steps in finding floor/living space of individual rooms. Describe the steps in finding total living space for your designed dwelling. Compare and contrast external and internal measurements for total living space. Apply CEC rules to calculate electrical requirements for your living space.

Guiding Ideas

  • According to the CEC, what is considered "Living Space"?
  • What section of the CEC deals with "Demand Load Calculations"?
  • What prior knowledge is required to design a basic dwelling and associated living spaces?
  • What prerequisite skills are required to calculate internal and external areas, total living space?

Student Activities

  • Research and collaboratively develop important aspects of measurement in relation to residential living spaces.
  • In Minecraft, design and construct a residential dwelling space containing a minimum of 2 sleeping areas, kitchen/eating area, bathroom and living area including doors & windows.
  • Review prior learning around amperage and voltage requirements for residential buildings/spaces.
  • Calculate the living space of each individual room and determine yotal area that will be used to determine total amperage required for your space.
  • Review important aspects of trechnical writing and prior learning of this concept.
  • Using any form of "visual assisted writing" platform (i.e. PPT, Sway etc.), create a guide that best represents your learning and application of the process that is required to calculate your findings.
  • Pressent your learning using your creation as a supporting resource.
