Learning Objectives

Learners understand the historical aspects of a local castle
Plan a Minecraft build collaboratively using Excel online

Guiding Ideas

Learners will learn about a local castle and think about why it was built. Using research, learners work collaboratively to plan and build a castle. Learners will develop computational thinking through developing code to support their builds.

Introductory Questions:

Why was the castle built in this location?
What areas were in a castle and what were they use for?
How will you work collaboratively to build your castle in Minecraft?
How could we use Agent to build part of the castle?
How will you present your information to visitors?

Student Activities

Introduction and Research 2+ hrs.

Learners work collaboratively research historical information about a castle

Planning 2+ hrs.

Learners use research to plan a representation of a castle to build in Minecraft: Education Edition
Learners label and annotate design to include historical features

Using Agent 2 hrs.

Learners plan and develop algorithms to code Agent to build specific parts of the castle
Learners trial their code in a Minecraft world, debugging the code to identify errors

Building the Castle 2 hrs.

Learners use plan to build their castles in a collaborative Minecraft: Education Edition world
Learners use algorithms from previous stage to program Agent to build parts of the castle
Learners use chalkboards and NPC’s to share information about their castle with visitors
